Three promising town in Kenya Taha will receive town status in within 2030
For a town to achieve a city charter in Kenya, it needs to meet certain requirements including strengthening their infrastructure, providing evidence that they can sustainably deliver services to its residents, demonstrate that they can generate enough revenue to keep area's operations running and have at least 250,000 residents living in the town, according to Urban Areas and Cities Act 2011.
With only four official cities in Kenya, several major towns have the potential to achieve the rare coveted status and should they achieve the above requirements, they could see their dream come true soon enough.

Having met the population threshold, Kiambu county government is already on a mission to upgrade the town's infrastructure. Surrounding ongoing projects such as the Eastern bypass expansion and Tatu city are also boosting its economic growth.
Malindi
The town located in Kilifi county is arguably the second largest coastal town in Kenya after Mombasa. According to world population review, it hosts over 118,000 residents.
The town has a fairly impressive tourism infrastructure and service delivery system which gives it an advantage.

Meru has often appeared in the top 10 economies among counties in the recent times including the latest 2022 data by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
Meru town also ranks among the largest urban centers in the country. With the impressive revenues it records and favorable population of the county, the town has potential to see it granted a city status in the next few years.
